Overview

The Vimar Net Safe 20340.1/20340.2 is a modular RJ45 Category 5e socket outlet for terminating onboard Ethernet cabling at a neat wall plate or panel position. It uses a Panduit (MINI-COM) connector with T568A/B universal wiring, 8 contacts, and 110-type insulation-piercing terminals for structured wiring terminations.

This range is offered in UTP and FTP versions, so you can match the outlet to the type of Cat5e cable installed on board. UTP versions are not screened, while FTP versions are screened for installations where a shielded run is preferred in equipment spaces.

On boats, it is commonly used to bring network drops to the nav station, helm electronics panel, AV cabinet, or a comms locker, keeping patch leads short and making it easier to label and service the network.

• VM20340.1.B: Color White, Connection UTP. A straightforward choice for unshielded Cat5e runs where you want the outlet to blend into light-colored panels.
• VM20340.1: Color Gray, Connection UTP. Keeps an unshielded termination while matching darker trim and equipment areas.
• VM20340.1.N: Color Silver, Connection UTP. Useful when you want an unshielded network drop with a finish that matches metallic or modern interiors.
• VM20340.2: Color Gray, Connection FTP. Provides a screened outlet for shielded Cat5e cabling in spaces where you are managing interference and cable routing.
• VM20340.2.N: Color White, Connection FTP. Pairs a screened termination with a light finish for tidy installs in visible locations.

Installation and setup

Plan the outlet position so the back of the module stays dry and protected, with enough room behind the plate for the bend radius of the cable. Terminate the cable to the 110-type insulation-piercing terminals using the correct tool, and keep the untwist to a minimum right up to the terminals to maintain Cat5e performance.

Use the same wiring scheme at both ends of the run (T568A or T568B), then test the link before closing the panel. Leaving a small service loop behind the plate makes future re-terminations easier after vibration, refits, or equipment changes.

Compatibility and fit

This is a modular RJ45 socket intended for structured wiring panels and wall plates that accept Vimar Net Safe style modules. Use the UTP versions with unshielded twisted-pair cabling, and use the FTP versions with shielded cabling where the cable shield and grounding approach are part of your onboard network plan.

It is meant for fixed cabling terminations on board, with patch leads used at the front for connecting devices like switches, routers, access points, and networked electronics.
